Big cheeses meeting in Red Leicester
Christine Shawcroft reports
Leicester was painted red on 9th January when the officers of the Network of Socialist Campaign Groups met to plan the overthrow of capitalism.
The officers will be concentrating on putting out a regular Network news bulletin with information from local groups. We also need to draw up a suggested timetable and standing orders for the AGM, to eliminate some of the problems experienced last year. The aims and values statement agreed at the AGM will be circulated to local groups for discussion and amendment at the next AGM.
Some kind of conference or event is planned for the summer, possibly around the Policy Forum consultation papers. In any case, we hope to put out suggested responses to Policy Forum papers. Responsibilities were divided up, with the most onerous tasks reserved for officers who weren't able to make it to the meeting.
The delegates to the Grassroots Alliance were mandated to support the retention of the "left" bit of the Centre Left Grassroots Alliance. It was felt that the platform for the slate this year should include disability rights, linking of pensions to average earnings, opposition to Private Finance Initiatives, the UNISON formula for the national minimum wage, and trade union rights, as a development of last year's programme.
So all in all, the Revolution is in safe hands.
