While shopworkers’ union USDAW quite rightly denounces the refusal of many retail employers to recognise the union which represents their staff, the leadership of that union refuses to recognise the union which represents their own staff!
This astonishing exercise in hypocrisy has now been going on for ten years. The staff believed that when Bill Connor took over as USDAW General Secretary it might lead to some change, but his refusal to modify the stance of his predecessor has led the GMB members involved to decide that more pressure is needed.
Accordingly they are organising lobbies of the USDAW Executive Council meeting on Monday 16th February 12-2.30pm in Manchester (USDAW Head Office is 188 Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield, Manchester; for transport from London contact Sonya McKay on 0171-928 3649) and the TUC General Council meeting on Wednesday 25th February at Congress House in London.
