Some Brief words of wisdom
The LLB AGM was the start of a serious discussion among activists on the challenges facing the Labour left. Here are highlights of two of the speeches.
It is vital we consolidate our opening out to the mainstream of the Party ... that has given us the four seats. We must run the same slate year after year ... it's about name recognition - they gave Liz free publicity.
I think there is a valid point that Labour Reform is under-represented on the slate, but the best way to tackle that is when a vacancy arises, not now by going into a damaging internal row.
I'm told Millbank has commissioned a £15,000 opinion poll to find out what would happen if I ran as an independent (for London Mayor)... I may have revealed too much too soon about the write-in campaign, I bet some toerag in Millbank Tower is working on a scratch card scheme that you can't write on.
I've been told "We make policy behind closed doors". Where are these closed doors? I've never been able to find them! Subvert the policy forums from the inside.
I'm often accused of being a Trotskyist. I'm not, I'm a Confucian. My favourite bit of Confucius I find so inspiring. Confucius says: "If you sit by the river long enough, eventually you will see the body of your enemy go floating by" ... the whole lot will go floating by.
