On 24th July around 200 people packed in the Grand Committee Room of the House of Commons for a meeting called to hear Peter Mandelson attempt to persuade Party members that Labour into Power was not the disaster we know it to be. The result was a meeting of mind-numbing tedium with a patronising display of Mandelson's self-satisfaction. The overall tone was summed up by David Cairns, chair of Mitcham and Morden CLP, who convened the meeting. "You can always organise your own meeting," was his response to someone in the audience who questioned the platform's lack of balance. Not, however, without the names and addresses of conference delegates that Walworth Road kindly supplied to the organisers. No doubt LLB would be given similar assistance!
