Reclaim the Future |

RECLAIM the Future began as a port-occupation and
street-celebration in Liverpool. It has now turned into an ongoing
movement and newspaper. The first issue features a dragon as its
masthead and is headed, "A world to win". The front page, written
by a Reclaim the Streets activist, states that the aim is mainly to
co-ordinate direct action. Also, the paper hopes to provide a forum
for action-oriented debate.
Among the 500 sacked Liverpool dockers, Mike Carden, Billy Jenkins, Tony Nelson and Jimmy Davies Junior in particular are committed and helped produce the splendid first issue. The inside pages cover a range of working-class, environmental and other campaigns across the world, including in the former Soviet Union. At this year’s LLB AGM we voted to participate on the editorial board of Reclaim the Future and to consider a range of options for future involvement. One small but dedicated Marxist organisation, former publishers of Workers' Press, have had a re-think about their existence, deciding to hand over their press and other resources to the journal. Many other campaigns have pledged support for the venture. From the attendance at recent editorial board meetings I predict a vibrant and healthy future for the paper and the mainly youthful forces it represents. |
