MANUEL SALAZAR, after twelve years in prison and nine years awaiting execution by lethal injection on "Death Row", has been freed. The jury at his retrial in Joliet, Illinois found him guilty of "involuntary manslaughter" but not guilty of murder. As he has served more than the maximum sentence he was released on bail.

As part of the international campaign to save Manuel, I had flown over to the trial. I was present on 8th November when Manuel was released and this was one of the most unforgettable and emotional moments of my life.

This result would not have been achieved without the sustained international pressure from the campaign. Another injustice has at least been partly corrected but there is still much to do. We have many cases in Britain that need our help and campaigning to ensure justice - not least that of Danny McNamee.
